MindGenius aids thinking - it is designed specifically to deliver excellence in managing techniques and methodologies capable of making businesses more efficient and people more effective.
At the heart of MindGenius are the principles of MindMapping - a technique created by Tony Buzan in the late 60’s, to help students learn and pass exams. It gets information into your head in a way that makes it stick and obviously this is a tremendous advantage when students & pupils are being assessed or examined.
When Gael first looked at developing MindGenius in 1998 the objective was different - how to access the knowledge, creativity and experience in our own and our colleagues heads, exactly when needed. So, in comparison, whilst the original use for MindMapping was to get information into heads our need was for the exact opposite - get information out. What turned out to be amazing was that, with minor adjustments, the MindMapping technique worked brilliantly for this.
You will find that traditional MindMapping uses images / pictures, along with associated information, to get detail to stick - in actual fact when you use MindMapping to learn, you find yourself recalling the image when thinking about the subject, and from that mental prompt you are able to flow with detail. This explains why traditional MindMaps are rich in colour and images.
For us to use the technique to access knowledge, creativity and experience we toned down the use of images and colour and focussed heavily on association, connections and re-use of the information gathered in different layouts and other applications. We found that images and colour became a distraction in the thinking process and consequently we developed the original MindGenius around our own needs. This explains why MindGenius Version 1 was largely image free - although those can be added if you take the time to do so. This, more than anything, explains how MindGenius is different to any other application in the marketplace - it was designed to do something totally different from traditional MindMapping.
MindGenius Version 2 was developed to do both - giving the user the choice to fill it full of colour and images to aid in the process of learning, however the default tones it right down to aid in the process of thinking and getting things done.
Education professionals quickly identified MindGenius as being terrific for students / pupils to express and communicate what they had learned – being able to access and use what they have learned when required. It also proved to be of huge benefit to teachers & lecturers in lesson preparation and in brainstorming topics with their classes. In addition, school and further education managers benefited from MindGenius in the same way that managers in industry do. This has lead to huge growth in the Education sector, with many schools across the country using MindGenius in the classroom and 280 Further Education establishments across the UK having installed site licences, giving access to all students across their campus.
